The folks at Chicago-based Southport Records ordinarily produce modern jazz and improvisational type
fare, yet their Composers Series was initiated as a vehicle to highlight contemporary classical, orchestral and, here,
electronic works by Turkish composer/performer/writer Ilhan Mimaroglu. With this release, the artist exhibits his
fascination with "tape music" and analog electronics. Mimaroglu has worked with the renowned classicist Edgar
Varese among others and has been the recipient of the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship along with a tenure at the
Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center working with his mentor, Vladimir Ussachevsky. Hence, these works span over
four decades and provide an intriguing glimpse back in time, prior to the digital revolution. On this production, the
listener will be treated to computer generated sounds, rock rhythms, classical overtones, kaleidoscopic passages,
cartoon-like themes, and spoken word overlays amid an assorted array of treatments. Overall, "Outstanding
Warrants" offers an interesting perspective and might be deemed important listening for the electronics enthusiast

Recordings from Mimaroglu are a tough find in any format.  Most of
his 60s/70s work  was released on the ever-so-tough-to-find Finnadar and Folkways labels, many now commanding 3-figure
sums when they can be found in decent shape.  Almost none of it has yet to be re-issued except for a handful of
compilations.  I do believe that this recording was the first CD release of any in his catalog- hope you find it

Songmy-A Fantasy For Electromagnetic Tape)- probably his easiest to find recording.  The Avant Garde Project @
